Can Microsoft bring augmented reality to the workplace?
In a live question and answer session on Reddit, Microsoft’s former chairman, Bill Gates, stated that the company. He founded was heading in the right direction with its augmented reality headset, HoloLens.
When asked what he thought about HoloLens’, he said;
‘The Hololens is pretty amazing. Microsoft has put a lot into the chips and the software. It is the start of virtual reality. Making the device so you don’t get dizzy or nauseous is really hard. The speed of the alignment has to be super super fast. It will take a number of years of package applications being designed to understand the complete promise of this’
Released when associate hour and a half Window’s ten demos. The Hololens’ would appear to be Microsoft’s most daring release ever. According to Fast Company, the Windows Holographic ‘is designed to augment reality by overlaying 3-D digital imagery on real-world scenes and providing control via gestures and voice’.
The Hololens, the googles that will run Window’s Holographic, is a power piece of equipment in its own right and will not require a PC or smartphone to run. Microsoft have also released pictures, and whilst the glasses are well designed. They certainly wouldn’t fit in seamlessly with someone’s life. Which of course would be wishful thinking at this stage of the product’s development.
Another interesting aspect of the HoloLens is ‘HoloStudio’ which allows users to create their own holograms and then potentially print them in 3-D. It’s been claimed that this will be of real use to businesses who will have a new medium to express their creativity. Which should allow leaders to teach their employees in new and effective ways.
It all sounds very impressive from Microsoft, but with the product still seemingly quite far away from the shelves, there are probably an awful lot of flaws that Microsoft’s launch of the HoloLens managed to hide. The rumours are that the Hololens’ will be released at the same time as the Windows 10 devices, which should be around mid since 2015. But as I say, these are just rumours. It is likely however that the product will be released sometime in since 2015. So it shouldn’t be too long before us consumers can test out the product for real.
